1st Project: 

Presenting: The Turn of the Century Vaudeville Show!

Requirement for the Playbill:
Title of your show
Who is in each act and what they will cover
An 'article' on each topic with key info as a study guide.

       Total = 50 points

Scenery and costumes: 25 points total.

  The SHOW:
Everyone must participate to get credit, on the assigned day.
Each Act is worth 25 points.
Each person must be in 2 acts minimum.
Each act must inform and entertain.
Each act must be reminicent of a Vaudeville style act.
Acts may consist of: comedy routines, dance routines, songs, melodramatic skits, animal acts

Total Points: 50

Costuming required.

If absent on the day of the presentation, 2 page report on your topic will be due when you get back to class.

All groups must be ready to perform on their assigned date.
No exceptions. Everyone must have a copy of all parts in their show.
If someone is absent, the group must arrange for a substitute from the 'gallery' to take the part.

Project is worth 125 points

  • Where people emigrated from and why.
  • How they were able to do this, including travel conditions.
  • Arrival in the US and processing in Ellis or Angel Island
  • Where and how they settled, work and living conditions

3.  The Gilded Age-

  • The Rise of Political Machines, explained
  • How they worked - who they helped or hurt
  • Corruption
  • Reform
 

2. Cities of the 1880s-

  • Housing Conditions
  • Transportation
  • Public Services
  • How and Why cities grew
  • Problems & Solutions
4. Life at the turn of the century-
  • Technology and city life
  • Education and state of medical treatment
  • Segregation & discrimination
  • Mass culture & entertainment
